LDSP Saturday Programs
9a.m. – Kayak Test Drive – Join a park interpreter at the kayak beach near the visitor center to take one of the park’s kayaks out for a test drive. This is a perfect opportunity for those who want to try kayaking but don’t have a boat. Each test drive will last just long enough for paddlers to get a feel for kayaking, but kayaks can be rented from the visitor center when conditions allow. Participants must be at least 6 years old.
11:30a.m. – What’s for Lunch? – We have 8,000 gallons of aquariums, filled with many of the fish species found in Lake Dardanelle. Join Park staff in the visitor center as they feed the fish live food. See for yourself, what’s for lunch?
2p.m. – Water Tricks – The Arkansas River carries an enormous amount of water as it flows through Lake Dardanelle. Water has some fascinating properties including surface tension and cohesion. Join a park interpreter at the kayak beach near the visitor center to experiment with these properties and discover why they matter to you when you are enjoying the lake.
4p.m. – Crumple Watershed – The watershed surrounding Lake Dardanelle is the backbone for the Arkansas River as the river journeys through the lake creating opportunities for people like you. Join a park interpreter on the Dardanelle Side of the park in the grassy area near the playground to learn about Lake Dardanelle’s vast and wide watershed. Then make your own watershed and see how the water rolls through your land!
